2010 Tour de France: Stage 10 Chambéry to Gap

July 15, 2010

Today’s stage has got category 1, 2, and 3 climbs, including a descending finish off a mountain. There is a breakaway but the peloton is taking things easy. Petacchi won the intermediate sprint over Thos Hushvod. Charteau and Pineau battled it out on the 1st climb, the category 1, and Pineau won it.

The lead group have got a 10:42 at 70 km left. The peloton took a break from the tour by not really pursuing the breakaway. It wasn’t that interesting, but Paulinho made a move at 12 km to go so that one of them could win the stage. The peloton is 12 minutes behind them.

The two leaders are able to create even more time between them and their pursuers. It’s up to 1 minute at the 5km mark. The peloton is 13 minutes behind.

Paulinho wins the sprint by making Kirilenko take the front so that he could make his move. It was a good move, that Kirilenko read a little too late in order to counter. A photo finish shows that Paulinho had only 6 inches in front of Kirilenko.

Roche manages to get off the front of the peloton by himself to grab himself a few extra seconds to move up in the GC standings. There was a bunch sprint between Hushovd, Petacchi and Cavendish. Hushovd still has the green jersey. They finished 14 minutes after Paulinho.
